Quote template for UK trades: what a good quote includes

A written quote protects you and your customer. It sets out the price, what's included, and what happens if the job changes.

What to include

  • Your business details and the customer's details
  • A quote number, the date and how long the price is valid for
  • A clear description of the work, split into labour and materials
  • VAT, if you're registered (shown separately), or no VAT if you aren't
  • Any deposit, payment stages and payment terms
  • What isn't included, and how extra work will be agreed (a written variation)

Quote or estimate?

A quote is generally a fixed price for the work described; an estimate is your best guess. Say which one it is on the document.

Selling to people at home?

If you agree a contract with a consumer in their home, they usually have a 14-day right to cancel, and you must give them cancellation information. Check GOV.UK or Citizens Advice for the details that apply to your work.

Templates that do the sums

Our UK Trades Quote & Invoice Kit (£9 + VAT) turns a quote into an invoice and switches VAT on or off with one cell. The Job Sheet & Customer Sign-off Pack includes a variation form for agreeing extra work in writing.
